The Affordable Care Act, above being signed by President Obama in 2010, means 30 million uninsured people will eventually be covered in the private market or through Medicaid. But it's creating a shortage in primary care doctors, so Unity Health Care Inc. announced a partnership last week with A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona and the Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education in Pennsylvaniato train 10 medical students and six residents. The mission of the DC-based nonprofit is to not only get a handle on the shortage but also entice the doctors to stay in DC by training them in the organization's network of Community Health Centers. Some local hospitals like Howard and Providence will give them in-patient experience.
