So Others Might Eat broke ground on the Conway Center, its future mixed-use building on Benning Road NE, which will have 202 affordable housing units, an expanded employment training center, and a medical and dental health center, opening in 2017. SOME president Fr. John Adams said it’s the first DC facility to offer homeless and low-income people safe, affordable housing, job training and healthcare in one place. A fundraising campaign started two years ago and has raised $16.7M of the $20M needed. SOME will also pursue $70M in available public funding, tax credits, tax-exempt bonds and low-interest loans.
