One of the most familiar faces in the DC nonprofit community announced Friday she would step down. Community Foundation for the National Capital Region president Terri Lee Freeman is leaving mid September to become president of the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tenn. Terri, with board chairman Martin Weinstein, joined the foundation in 1996 and grew it from 200 component funds worth $94M to 786 funds worth $328M. She also created funds to help people affected by 9/11, people relocating to DC from New Orleans after Katrina, and families affected by the recession. She also launched programs focused on education, workforce development, and released a first-of-its-kind affordable housing study.
