Giving Tuesday, the annual online event started three years ago to raise money for charitable causes the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, raised nearly $46M during this year’s 24-hour period, according to the AP. Several celebrities helped the effort, including Bill and Melinda Gates. The amount donated increased by 63% over 2013, with an average gift of $154. Last year, about $28M was raised and in 2012, it was $13.5M. The number of organizations also grew from 2,500 three years ago to over 15,000 this year.
