One of the architecture firms designing Amazon HQ2 has decided to open an outpost in the District to help expand its portfolio in the market.

NBBJ announced Tuesday it opened an office at 2001 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, the architecture firm's first office in D.C. and 12th around the world.

The firm leased 2,400 SF in the Foggy Bottom building as part of Carr Properties' WaveOffice flexible workspace. The office will be led by Commercial Practice Director Brad King and partner Timothy Johnson.

NBBJ worked with Amazon on its headquarters expansion in Seattle, and the e-commerce giant also tapped the firm to work on its second headquarters in Northern Virginia. The firm is working on master planning, building architecture and interior design for the HQ2 project.

Also in D.C., the firm has worked on the repositioning of Terrell Place, which landed tech giants Facebook and Yelp, and the new headquarters of The Advisory Board Co. at 655 New York Ave. NW. NBBJ says it hopes the opening of the office will help it land new clients in the D.C. market.

"Locating an office in Washington, D.C. ensures we can better serve our clients while at the same time extend our services to the many local development, commerce, government and healthcare organizations that are searching for visionary and adaptable solutions for the built environment," NBBJ Managing Partner Steve McConnell said in a release. "Washington, D.C. is a dynamic hub for business, policy and the arts, but also a market ripe with organizations looking for solutions to help them better innovate and create."
