Ontario Teachers Sees Upside In This 'Unique' UK Crematoria Business

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan has partnered with Universities Superannuation Scheme to acquire UK crematoria developer/operator Westerleigh Group from Antin Infrastructure Partners. Westerleigh handles 30,000 funerals a year across 22 UK sites, 13 of which it developed itself. Crematoria are an “essential piece of social infrastructure in the UK,” the purchasers say; over 75% of deaths are cremated there each year. Teachers' SVP Andrew Claerhout says the “unique business” has a strong market position, with stable revenues and a resilient operating model that aligns with OTPP’s long-term investment focus.
