Miami’s in the top 10 US cities with the highest percentage of green commercial space, according to the recently released 2014 Green Building Adoption Index, put together by CBRE and Maastricht U. Miami came in at No. 9 at 46% of commercial space certified green, edging out DC (42.2%). Minneapolis topped the list at 77%, with San Francisco and Chicago next. There are 79 buildings in Miami totaling 21M SF of office that have either an EPA Energy Star label or LEED certification. The first LEED building in Miami was 1000 Waterford, certified in 2009, and now Miami municipal code mandates that all new private development over 50k SF be at least LEED Silver.
