Portland was green before green was hip, and now that it's hip, the city's a Top 10 green city, according to a recent ranking by WalletHub. Portland's No. 8, coming in just behind Oakland and just ahead of Sacramento (and ahead of No. 11, Seattle). Unsurprisingly, San Francisco came in at No. 1.
To come up with a list of the greenest cities—determine which cities promote an environmentally friendly lifestyle—WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities across 20 key indicators of sustainability, including greenhouse-gas emissions per capita, percentage of commuters who drive, percentage of electricity from renewable sources, and number of smart-energy policies and initiatives.
