The vast majority of you agree with Stan that renting-by-choice isn't going anywhere. Some of your responses:
"It's a lifestyle- driven trend. Some people don't want the responsibility of maintaining a house and, in some cases, a yard. The freedom is very attractive. It allows travel and nights out away from home that ownership might preclude."
"Big down payment and taking care of your own maintenance is a big turnoff right now. In these uncertain times, having cash in the bank is a measure of security for people."
"The demographic will eventually start having kids and move to the neighborhoods. Maybe a bit older, but they will do it."
"Finance rates should stay low for the mid-range (three to five years) with a dramatic increase in liquidity, while asset values will likely increase beyond recent historical levels. This will create too good a deal for renters to pass up."
