David Simon joined his father’s real estate business, known as Melvin Simon & Associates, in 1990. He helped take it public in 1993 as Simon Property Group. The IPO was valued at $1B, at the time the largest ever for a real estate company. He became CEO of the firm in 1995, and chairman in 2007.

Simon Property Group is a serious force in retail real estate not only in the U.S. but globally. It has stakes or outright ownership in well over 300 properties and nearly 250M SF in North America and Asia. It has a workforce of over 5,000. — Scott Klocksin
