Playa Vista is one of the most exciting areas of development in LA. Above, Lincoln Property Co's Kent Handleman shows us around Runway, its 11 acres of shopping, residences, and offices. Ratkovich has leased up 80% of its colorful 28-acre Hercules campus (the old Howard Hughes Aircraft HQ), while developer Jeff Worthe has redone a 50-year-old, 370k SF postal distribution center called the Reserve and has leased over half of it. In San Francisco, The Mark Co prez Alan Mark tells us that Lennar Urban will oversee the residential branding and design of The San Francisco Shipyard and Candlestick Point, the multi-billion dollar, 775-acre development along nine miles of the S.F. waterfront. (Old baseball stadiums have so much potential... kind of like the teams do before they crush our hearts.) It's the largest redevelopment effort there since the 1906 earthquake and has entitlements for 12,000 homes, 3.2M SF of office and R&D space, 885k SF of retail, 100k SF of community facilities, a large performance venue, and over 325 acres of parks and open space. There's a shortage of affordable and market-rate housing in the Bay Area, so this project will be a game changer, Alan says.
