In a 2008 interview with Tire Business magazine, Bruce Halle described how his business empire began in 1960 with just six tires for sale: “I was just trying to make a living, you know, trying to buy bread and milk and pay the rent. That's all. I started that way.”

It didn’t end that way. The 87-year-old billionaire owns Discount Tire, which has 940 stores in 33 states. He is the richest resident of Arizona. He also controls Halle Properties, a privately held real estate firm that paid $40M for Discount Tire’s 157K SF HQ building in Scottsdale in May 2017. — Scott Klocksin
