Elon Musk thinks he has a solution for LA traffic: a large number of underground tunnels.
Musk talked about the idea during a TED Talk last week, ReCode reports.
The Tesla and SpaceX founder's new firm, The Boring Co., released a video explaining how cars would park on roadside elevators, which would then be lowered down to the tunnels.
The cars would be loaded onto a platform known as a "skate" to move the cars at record speeds, possibly up to 124 mph.
The Boring Co. is getting some experience in this area with work that has already begun on a tunnel at SpaceX's headquarters in Hawthorne. Musk plans to connect that tunnel to a parking structure on the other side of Crenshaw Boulevard.
While focusing on tunnels, he has dismissed another far-fetched idea now moving toward reality — flying cars.
