Former LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa just announced he's entering the race for governor of California in 2018.
Villaraigosa, who left office three years ago, plans to run with an aim of helping the middle class, improving state infrastructure and unity amid divisiveness, the LA Times reports.
California governors are limited to two terms in office, and Gov. Jerry Brown is completing his second consecutive term. His first two terms in office were before term limits were in place.
Villaraigosa joins an increasingly crowded pool of candidates, including Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and State Treasurer John Chiang of Torrance.
San Francisco billionaire Tom Steyer and former state Controller Steve Westly may also run.
Villaraigosa served as the mayor of LA for eight years. [LAT]
