Cube-Style Residential Rising Near Koreatown

Another residential complex is rising in Pico Union near LA’s dense Koreatown neighborhood. Mariposa—which means “life in balance”—is a five-story, 32-unit residential project going up south of Olympic.

The project has quite the unique cube design, which pushes the cube inward on the sides to create curves that provide relief to the stark white façade, while balconies project outward to provide city views. Due to the curvature of the building, each balcony has a unique view.

A carved opening in the interior creates a courtyard space that lets in natural light and provides cross-ventilation for residences. A rooftop deck provides an outdoor space for tenants to gather and enjoy views of the Downtown LA skyline. [ULA]
