A judge’s ruling has invalidated construction permits for a 23-story, 299-unit luxury apartment tower at 5929 Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, and now the project must undergo a whole new EIR process before new permits will be issued. In the meantime, developer CIM Group is closing the partially occupied Sunset and Gordon project and forcing all tenants to move by Oct. 4. CIM’s troubles began three years ago when the company demolished the façade of a 1924 Spanish Colonial building. CIM’s action caused the La Mirada Avenue Neighborhood Association to file a lawsuit alleging the developer’s failure to preserve the historic building made the whole project illegal. CIM says it followed city protocol and disagrees with the ruling. [LAT]
