LA Live owner AEG and Archer Aviation are working together to develop Downtown Los Angeles’ first vertical takeoff and landing site for electric air taxis, or a vertiport, at LA Live, the companies announced Monday. 

The 4M SF LA Live entertainment district sits next to the Los Angeles Convention Center and the Crypto.com Arena, where the NBA’s Lakers, the NHL's Kings and the WNBA's Sparks play. Archer is the official air taxi provider of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will be held in Los Angeles.

“We see this as a one-of-a-kind opportunity to add a flagship downtown location to our planned Los Angeles air taxi network ahead of the LA28 Games,” Archer CEO Adam Goldstein said in a statement. 

The agreement makes Archer the exclusive air taxi partner of LA Live. The air taxi company is planning to display a new aircraft Monday at LA Live in conjunction with the announcement. Archer’s air taxis are electric, making them quieter and less polluting than traditional helicopters, according to the company. 

The LA Live vertiport location will join a network of secured vertiport sites throughout greater LA, including at Los Angeles International Airport, SoFi Stadium, the University of Southern California and in the San Fernando Valley. 

The regulations to support electric vertical takeoff and landing, or eVTOL, have yet to be fully greenlit, but the Federal Aviation Administration is moving full steam ahead on that front. In March, the FAA launched a pilot program for air taxis in eight markets across the country, including Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The program's launch was hailed as “the clearest sign yet from the White House, the FAA and the Department of Transportation that bringing air taxis to market in the United States is a real priority,” Goldstein said in a statement at the time.
