Three Royal Docks Developments That Are Going To Change London

East London has experienced a boom since 2005 when Stratford was chosen to host the 2012 Olympics. Developers clued in quickly that the quirky East End was about to get an avalanche of investment—and they raced to be some of the first to leave their fingerprints on the area. Shoreditch, Putney, Hackney all received very visible changes, and the effects are still rippling eastward. Here are three projects in the Royal Docks that are about to change East London…again.

Royal Albert Basin

The Royal Albert Basin is a mixed-use business and residential area in the London Borough of Newham. Numerous sites are in the process of being developed. One of the most exciting is Notting Hill Housing Group’s riverside community at Great Eastern Quay that adjoins Albert Island and the Gallions Marina. Homes and shops will feature improved links to the University of East London and surrounding areas. A proposal is in the works for marine-based industry and a commercial boatyard as well.

Royal Albert Dock

Royal Albert Dock will become London’s centre for Asian business. Chinese developer Asian Business Port plans to create a gateway to Europe for business from Asia with a number of Asian companies bringing their headquarters to the Royal Albert Dock. The £1B project will include residential and retail space—some of which will be floating on the water.

Royal Victoria Dock

The Royal Victoria Dock is one of the newest mini-cities in east London and will soon feature London’s Floating Village. Carillion Igloo Genesis will develop a thriving community of homes, shops, restaurants and cafés all floating on the water, just Frisbee distance from Royal Victoria DLR. These facilities will be permanently moored mortgageble properties linked together by pontoons.
