A hostel formerly owned by Loreto nuns is on sale for €16M plus.

According to the Irish Times, John Ryan of CBRE Hotels is advising on the sale. The asking price for for the St Stephen’s green hostel will be €16M plus. It was sold by the Loreto order in 2017 for €7.55M.

The building has planning permission to allow conversion into 81-bedroom hotel. Obtaining planning permission for the conversion did not prove easy for the present owner, Brown Table Solutions, a three-man consortium which overcame opposition from the Office of Public Works, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Irish Georgian Society.

The new luxury hotel will have eight suites and a range rooms in the original Georgian house. A nine-story block to the rear of the building will be developed to accommodate 73 guest bedrooms with floor areas measuring an average of 242 SF. In addition to the new block, a former chapel will be converted into a restaurant and bar.

Situated on the south of St Stephen’s Green beside the Department of Foreign Affairs it is expected that the hotel will operate  as a four-star hotel once completed.

Originally built for the Earl of Glandore in 1765, no.77 was bought by the Catholic order in 1911 to use as a hostel for young women from outside Dublin attending the National University. The university had opened its doors to women three years previously.

Loreto Hall continued as accomodation for girls going to colleges in the capital until the 1990s.
