The apartment listings website Zumper is adding to the evidence of Chicago's rental boom with a new report that places Chicago 7th on the list of most expensive cities in the country to rent an apartment. That’s two places higher than Chicago scored last month, right behind San Jose and Oakland. Zumper places median prices for a Chicago one-bedroom at $1,760 a month, and a two-bedroom at $2,370 a month. The hottest neighborhoods? Predictably, the Near North Side, which includes River North, Streeterville and the Gold Coast, topped the list, with the Loop and the Near West Side in a close second and third. Renters can expect to pay somewhere between $1,900 and $2,140 a month in one of these neighborhoods, Curbed reports. San Francisco topped the national list, with New York City right behind it.
