The Nobu Hotel planned for Fulton Market took another step toward becoming a reality after the Chicago Plan Commission approved the project.
The Commission's stamp may be seen merely as a formality, since the official groundbreaking was held in June, with Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the development's celebrity investor, Robert De Niro, in attendance, according to Chicago Architecture Blog. The project still needs approval from the full City Council, which is considered another formality.
The project at the corner of Randolph and Peoria streets originally called for 12 stories, 119 hotel rooms and 35 parking spaces. After presenting it to community groups, it was revised last year to seven stories, 93 rooms, a 10k SF restaurant and a penthouse. [CAB]
