CIM Group and Golub have been tight-lipped about their specific plans for redeveloping Tribune Tower, but interior demolition of the landmark building is quietly moving forward. The Chicago Department of Buildings last week issued a second renovation and alteration permit for the 36-story tower.
The permit covers demolition of non-load-bearing partitions, drop ceilings and associated finishes on the 13th, 18th, 26th, 30th and 31st floors. A permit issued on Jan. 2 covers similar work on the 16th, 20th, 24th, 27th and 29th floors. Crews wasted no time starting work.

The combined value of the work covered under the permits is $4M. Although CIM and Golub have not revealed specifics of their plans for Tribune Tower, it has been widely believed the redevelopment will involve a mix of apartments, offices, retail and a hotel. The building's longtime tenants are moving. Tribune Media, which focuses on broadcasting, signed a lease at 303 East Wacker Drive in November 2016. The Chicago Tribune and its parent company, tronc, are moving their offices to Prudential Plaza.
