That the $155M, 250k SF research lab project under construction at 300 Mass Ave took nearly 14 years for site acquisition (slated to open Q1 ’16) is OK with Kathryn. In ’97, when she became in-house counsel at Forest City's Boston office, negotiations to buy University Park’s last development parcel started. She got into real estate development to see the entire scope of activities and she sure has for this project: land acquisition, a JV agreement with MIT, leasing to Takeda Oncology, financing, permitting and construction. Unlike some other aspects of law, she likes that real estate is tangible. She’s advanced by being confident, organized and willing to step outside her comfort zone. Advice: be confident and give back.
