Fenway may be evolving into more than just a ballpark neighborhood, and just landed its first lab tenant.

Decibel Therapeutics moved into 32K SF at Samuels & Associates’ Van Ness building Tuesday, bringing 50 jobs and a 100% occupancy rate to the mixed-use development. The first lab tenant and biotech company in Fenway, Decibel is focused on discovering and developing medicines pertaining to hearing in its new state-of-the-art lab space and work environment. Van Ness, at 1325 Boylston St., is one block from Fenway Park. Built on spec, the mixed-use tower was fully leased one year after opening in the summer of 2015.

“Our new headquarters in the Fenway will enable us to bring our capabilities under one roof and sustain the cross-disciplinary exchange needed to conduct breakthrough science,” Decibel president and CEO Steve Holtzman said. “We are also pleased to be a pioneer in the Fenway; hearing loss is more than a medical condition — the ability to hear the crack of a bat at a ballgame or enjoy a great concert are emblematic of the contribution that hearing brings to the human experience.”
