Longwood Gas Station Giving Way to Hilton Garden Inn

Another Boston gas station has dried up.

Callahan Construction Managers began work in late September on the Hilton Garden Inn Boston Brookline between Longwood Medical Area and Fenway. Claremont Cos. is developing the 174-room, 11-story hotel at 700 Brookline Ave.

The Cambridge Seven Associates and Stantec-designed project is scheduled to complete by 2020. A restaurant, meeting space, a ground-floor café and a 70-space parking garage are part of the development.

The property was formerly home to a Gulf gas station and is part of a wave of local developments that have either proposed or entailed eliminating gas stations in favor of other uses.

South Carolina-based OTO Development is planning a 184-room hotel where a Shell gas station is at 1241 Boylston St. by Fenway Park. Star Market spent $17M on a Gulf station by its Fenway grocery store and plans to use the site for parking.
