| In October, renovations will be completed on its South Bay store. John says Target likes Boston because it's a healthy market and is one of the most highly educated big cities in America. (Healthy and wise, two out of three works). That means a lot in these slow economic times. This year, he tells us, Target will open 21 new stores nationwide compared to about 110 in good times, given the development of new retail centers has slowed. John oversees a $4B budget, and is responsible for a real estate portfolio that includes 234M SF of retail, 51M SF of industrial distribution space, and 6M SF of office.
