Architects, interior designers, plus makers of flooring, hardware, feathers, and flame throwers (not your typical jv) teamed up to create wild costumes to illustrate this year?s theme: R(e)volution. |
| We snapped the winner of Best in Show: ?Steam? by SMRT,Mannington, NRF Flooring, Wolf Gordon, and Stanley Hardware. Inspired by the transportation revolution, this model paraded down the runway holding a steam- spewing torch and strutting on spiky boots. Hair piled atop her head, she wore a coat of carpet festooned with just enough hardware to make her sassy but not scary. The team described her outfit as depicting travel from the 1900s to 1940s on steamships, trains, planes, and autos. |
| We snapped a few of the 750 guests, The Goodwin Group's Tara Goodwin Frier, Union Office's Holyn Nickerson, and Nelson Black Cow?s Stacy Chambers. Sponsored by firms like Knoll, Allsteel, and Herman Miller, the evening started out tamely enough with a cocktail and buffet dinner reception. It then moved on to the fashion show, where other winning teams were led by: Isgenuity for Construction, Dyer Brown for interpretation of the theme, ADD Inc. for use of materials, Bergmeyer for ingenuity, and Lasell for Best in Show—student. |
| Event chairperson Stephen Mehrtens gave a hint of things to come with his bright orange sneakers. Not only did the afterparty at the Westin?s Bar 10 rock on ?til 1 a.m., the gala was sold out and the sponsorship committee beat its fundraising goal by $15k Some of the proceeds will be donated to Dress for Success, a Boston-based non-profit that helps supply women with outfits they can wear to find and keep jobs. Overall, a great success in challenging times. |
