| The Kendall Square/East Cambridge market has at least $4B in new life science, pharma and academic projects in construction or planned, making it an '11 standout. MIT has cranked up much of the Big Mo. Its president Susan Hockfield (brown suit) celebrated one recent start, a $300M, 500k SF research complex for Pfizer at 610 Main St. In ?11, Tech launched a $1.5B 10-year plan to build new and renovate existing academic space on campus. In ?12, its real estate investment arm will kick-off a $700M, 1.1M SF plan to build offices, labs, housing and retail around Kendall Square. Other neighborhood developers include Boston Properties, Forest City, Novartis, and Alexandria. |
