On this episode of Bisnow Reports, we hear from Jordan Kavana, the CEO and founder of Ark Homes for Rent, which has raised billions to acquire single-family homes for rent in the Sun Belt markets.

Ark works with homebuilders to acquire properties as they're delivered and offers its residents a slate of personal health and wellness services.

Kavana discusses building his business in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis, the growth of the single-family rental market and how domestic migration is affecting his business, as well as his views on SFR's reputation as the destroyer of the American dream: homeownership.

"I’m very comforted by the fact that, on both sides of the aisle there is clearly an understanding and a big push for affordable housing," he said. "I believe the single family for rent space is becoming — I don’t think it is there yet — but it is becoming part of this affordable housing strategy, because frankly, most of the major MSAs (metropolitan statistical areas) that we are investing in happen to be the same areas where there is a huge housing issue."

Bisnow's audio series, Bisnow Reports, examines every facet of the international commercial real estate industry — from the murky future of retail and office to real estate’s reckoning with diversity to the effects of climate change on the built world, and so much more.
