Amazon Plans Convenience Stores, Curbside Pickup

It’s not enough to be the leading e-commerce retailer in the country, Amazon wants a larger share of the grocery business, too. Its next venture—convenience stores and curbside pickup locations.

The Seattle-based e-commerce behemoth is boosting its physical presence in the grocery business by building small brick-and-mortar stores to sell perishables like produce, milk and meats. And if that’s not enough, customers can use their phones or possibly touch screens throughout the stores to order longer shelf life products for same-day delivery, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Amazon will also roll out drive-in locations where customers who order groceries online can drive to the pickup location and have their order brought to the car. Amazon’s even looking into using license-plate tech to speed up the process. [WSJ]
