WeWork Partners With Online Education Provider For Yale, NYU, Berkeley, Others

WeWork is partnering with online education provider 2U Inc. to offer students a new place to study and collaborate.

The partnership will allow remote students from schools including New York University, University of California, Berkeley, and Yale University to study from a dedicated WeWork location, collaborate with other students in person and rent conference rooms. Students will be able to access any of WeWork’s 207 locations, Bloomberg reports.

2U has also committed to provide $5M in scholarship opportunities to WeWork members and by 2019, the pair plan to unveil a Future of Learning and Work co-working space.

"WeWork has always believed that we are better together, and a large part of that is learning from others through meaningful connections and experiences. 2U has been a leader in making higher education more accessible, and when I met [2U co-founder and CEO] Chip [Paucek] I knew that together we could provide people around the world with a global campus to learn, connect and build community," WeWork CEO and co-founder Adam Neumann said in a statement.

This is not the first time WeWork has invested in education. Last year, the co-working giant announced the creation of an elementary school program called WeGrow, which focuses on fostering kindness, conscious entrepreneurship and a connection to nature in its participants.

In October, WeWork purchased The Flatiron School, a coding school focused on accelerated programs for adults. In addition to partnering with 2U on offering space, WeWork will be licensing The Flatiron School's Learn.co technology to the online education provider.

"We are all students for life, and this partnership creates incredible opportunities to foster lifelong learning," Neumann said.
