The Durst Organization Is Setting Up 1 WTC As A Broadcast Hub

The Durst Organization, one of the country’s most prominent family-run real estate firms, is setting up a broadcast center at One World Trade Center—using the tower’s height to lure broadcast firms leaving the Empire State Building.

Durst is ponying up $40M to outfit the tower’s 408-foot spire with broadcast antennas. Among the list of firms ditching the Empire State Building are CBS and WNET—and Durst hopes to snag some radio broadcaster leases as well, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The WTC project represents a major expansion into the airwaves for the firm, which got into the broadcasting niche in 2001. [WSJ]
