RXR Realty CEO Scott Rechler is stepping down as vice chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey after nearly five years at the agency.

Rechler’s tenure included the notorious Bridgegate scandal, along with the resignation of NJ Gov. Chris Christie’s top appointee at the agency, chairman David Samson.

“It’s been an interesting time period,” Scott tells Bloomberg of his time with the Port Authority.

Scott will be replaced by Steven M. Cohen, formerly Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s senior-most adviser, Bloomberg reports.

Scott created a special oversight panel at the Port Authority aimed at improving governance, and during his tenure the authority tried to insulate itself from political interference by discarding the tradition of having NJ’s governor appoint its deputy executive director. [Bloomberg]
