Experts: CMBS Could Make A Comeback

Placeholder

CMBS could see a surge in the next few months as banks pull back from funding certain projects.

Blackstone principal Qahir Madhany says CMBS strength has been closely tied with equities and oil, both of which sunk in February. As both sectors have recovered some, Madhany expects CMBS to do the same.

Market volatility and pending regulations saw lenders pulling away from CMBS issuances in 2015, and Related Cos chief legal officer Jennifer McCool says that drop-off means pricing isn’t so competitive, The Real Deal reports.

“You’re seeing the market solidify itself,” says Qahir. “We do think there should be a rally of CMBS over the next couple of months.” [TRD]
