Revitalization of South Central Continues

Doug tells us the project for the the South Central Los Angeles Regional Center (SCLARC) was the largest ground-up construction in the West Adams and South Central districts in some time. SCLARC is a private nonprofit that provides essential services to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

The project included renovating the adjacent 55k SF Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Building, which was originally built in 1949 and designed by famed architect Paul Revere Williams. The reno included preserving murals depicting African-American history in California in the 300-person auditorium and lobby. Doug says the building has been a beacon of the community for years, and hopes it will show there is an interest in modern development in the area.
