Arena In Inglewood Approved For Clippers

Staples Center in LA

Not only are the LA Rams and the Chargers planning on setting up residence in Inglewood in the coming years, but now the LA Clippers are eyeing the city for a future arena.

The Inglewood City Council unanimously approved an exclusive negotiating agreement with the Clippers on Thursday.

The team could build an arena across the street from the soon-to-be built NFL stadium, ABC News reports.

It would be privately financed and built on 22 acres owned by the city between Prairie and Yukon avenues south of Century Boulevard, the Orange County Register reports.

The Clippers lease at Staples Center does not expire until June 2024, so the team is not expected to leave until then. The team has been considering a new arena.

The agreement calls for a three-year negotiating period with a six-month extension. The team will work on plans for what could be an 18,000- to 20,000-seat arena, and Inglewood will conduct an environment review.

As part of the agreement, the Clippers will have to pay a non-refundable $1.5M deposit for costs associated with the planning.
