The Changing Face and Epicenter of Downtown LA

Los Angeles is in the midst of a renaissance, and it’s going to change the face of downtown as we know it. Commercial spending in LA doubled from 2013 to 2014 to reach more than $3B and is expected to jump to $7B by the end of this fiscal year, according to the Department of Building and Safety. All that activity will help reshape the Los Angeles skyline—more than 10 skyscrapers are currently being constructed downtown. Skyscrapers are one of the first structures travelers notice when they drive down the 110 Freeway, but other projects will have their own unique impact on the heart of the LA economy. The remodeled convention center is one major project in the pipeline that will attract visitors from all over the United States. Like most convention centers, it will create new jobs and increase spending at local businesses, but it will also function as a symbol of our city’s commitment to remaining competitive in the global marketplace of the 21st century. Turner has seen how a revitalized convention center can invigorate and create consistent attraction to a city, and support L.A.’s downtown renaissance.
