As founder and CEO of real estate advisory firm Hart Advisors Group, Tanya Hart Little has turned her passion into a successful enterprise that has completed more than $4.5B in commercial loan restructurings, assumptions and recapitalizations.

Prior to founding the firm, Hart Little served as chief operating officer of RBC Capital Markets Real Estate Mortgage Capital, where she offered CMBS financing for commercial real estate debtors.

As an entrepreneur, Hart Little is the leader she always dreamed of becoming. Her first inspiration in life came from her father, who ran his own business.

Today, she finds inspiration in her daughter and co-workers who are up-and-coming in the industry.

Bisnow: What did you dream of becoming as a child? How does your current career feed that inner child inside of you?  

Hart Little: I wanted to be a leader like my dad but I really wasn’t sure what that meant. He didn’t have a formal education and owned his own upholstery business and everyone who needed something in that line of work knew him. Today, my business has his name on the door, [and I] couldn’t be more proud.

Bisnow: If you could teach women growing in the industry today just one thing, what would it be?  

Hart Little: Never jeopardize your integrity.

Bisnow: Who inspires you on a daily basis and why? 

Hart Little: My daughter and my mentees. They are a gift that keeps me hopeful for the future.

Bisnow: What is your biggest career failure and what positive lessons did it teach you? 

Hart Little: Every “failure” is an opportunity. Never stop learning to pick yourself up and try again.

Bisnow: Describe your greatest career accomplishment. 

Hart Little: Launching my own business. Everyone says it but it is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
