Less than a decade after it opened, a plant in Metro Atlanta that churned out glass doors and screens for commercial refrigerators is shutting its doors.

Anthony Inc. filed a worker adjustment and retraining notice with the Georgia Department of Labor disclosing it is permanently closing its facility at 709 Sigman Road in Conyers. The company, which is a subsidiary of industrial conglomerate Dover Corp., said 136 workers will lose their jobs.

Anthony opened the 130K SF building in 2015, which at the time was its fourth plant — the company also operated facilities in Madison, Georgia, Shanghai and at its home base in Sylmar, California.

The plant was used to manufacture glass doors, lighting systems and display equipment for use in commercial refrigeration systems. Assemblers, machine operators, supervisors and engineers were among the positions listed as being eliminated. The layoffs are expected to begin Sept. 29.

The closure is a spot of bad news for Atlanta's industrial market, which as recently as last year was one of the hottest in the country. It has started to cool down this year, with leasing activity in the second quarter 50% slower than in Q2 2022, according to CBRE.
