Wael Barsoum, MD, is President of Cleveland Clinic Florida and a member of the Cleveland Clinic Board of Governors and Executive Team. A proven leader, Dr. Barsoum has directed several initiatives to improve clinical outcomes, patient experience, and hospital operations. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and as Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve. Additionally, Dr. Barsoum has a clinical practice as an orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in adult reconstructive surgery, including primary/revision hip and knee replacement and reconstruction, and knee arthroscopy. He is a member of both the Knee Society and the Hip Society.

An avid researcher and innovator who leads a productive team, Dr. Barsoum holds the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Distinguished Chair in Healthcare Innovation and is principal investigator for clinical, basic science and translational studies. In addition to dozens of granted or pending patents, he is the co-Primary Investigator on a Third Frontier grant funded by the state of Ohio, for which he has designed patient-specific customized tools and instrumentation for total hip, shoulder and spine arthroplasty. A prolific author, he has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and co-authored nine textbook chapters. Dr. Barsoum received the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Innovations Award 10 times, including the 2011 Sones Award for Innovation. He has served as a member of several design teams for a variety of orthopaedic instruments and implants and sits on several innovative industry advisory boards.

Dr. Barsoum obtained his medical degree from The Ohio State University, followed by Orthopaedic Surgery residency training at Cleveland Clinic and a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital. He is a fellow of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
