Welcome Back to First Draft Live

THIS WEEK …

The Fed meets Wednesday — and while a rate cut isn’t expected, this could still mark a turning point for CRE.

After nearly two years of higher-for-longer policy, the signs of stress are everywhere. Bond yields are sliding. Layoffs are rising. Tariffs are lingering. And inflation has cooled for four straight months. The pressure is building — not just from Wall Street, but from a real estate industry desperate for capital to start flowing again.

On this week’s First Draft Live, we break down why even a no-action meeting might still shift the trajectory. Is Fed Chair Jerome Powell laying the groundwork for a cut in September? Can the industry start to price in a new cycle? And what does a return to “normal” really mean when the zero-rate era is over?

This isn’t just about what the Fed does now — it’s about whether CRE is finally at the edge of a thaw.

ABOUT FIRST DRAFT LIVE

In a time of economic whiplash, policy swings and market churn, we launched a new weekly livestream — First Draft Live — inspired by our popular daily newsletter, The First Draft, that unpacks what’s really moving commercial real estate right now. Every Friday at 12:30 p.m. ET / 9:30 a.m. PT, we bring in an industry leader for a real-time conversation on the week’s most pressing story.

Audience questions are welcome and will be fielded by our producer during the livestream. Can’t attend live? Register anyway — the recording will be available within 24 hours. To watch or listen to past episodes, click here.
