State of the Arts District

As Senior Vice President of Development, Mark Janda is responsible for new development activity in the Southern California region. He joined the company in July of 2012. Mr. Janda has more than two decades of experience in the multifamily and mixed-use development business. Prior to joining AvalonBay, he spent 12 years at The Irvine Company, where he managed the development of over 13,000 multifamily units, including some of the largest and most capital-intensive projects ever undertaken by the company. Prior to The Irvine Company, Mr. Janda spent three years with The Macklowe Organization in New York, where his responsibilities included acquisition, finance, and development of the company’s multifamily, office and retail investments in Manhattan. He held an earlier position with Landauer Associates in New York, where his assignments included economic modeling, portfolio valuation projects and the underwriting of several REIT IPO’s. Mr. Janda started his career as a structural engineer, designing structural systems for large-scale projects, including Denver International Airport. Mr. Janda holds a Master of Science degree in Real Estate from New York University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University. His professional affiliations include the Urban Land Institute and the California Building Industry Association.

Mr. Bar-Zemer was born and raised in Jerusalem. He attended the Music Academy of Jerusalem and continues to be a lover and patron of the arts in Los Angeles. He lives in one of his own developments in the Arts District with his wife and two daughters, who grew up in the neighborhood. As a avid supporter of Downtown and the LA River communities, Bar-Zemer sits on the Board of Friends of the Los Angeles River (FOLAR) and ICA LA (formally the Santa Monica Museum of Art). He is also involved in the social entrepreneurship co-working concept Impact Hub LA, and the Institute of Field Research. Civics include: LARABA, ADCCLA, Arts District BID, Historic Cultural Neighborhood Council, HCNC-LARABA Land Use Committee, Design Advisory Committee for the Sixth Street Viaduct Replacement Project, Technical Advisory Committee for the In-Channel Bike Path, and the Preservation Zoning Advisory Committee (ZAC) for re:code LA.

Vince serves as co-head of Greystar’s Los Angeles office, overseeing a $1.5 billion real estate portfolio, including AMP Lofts in the Arts District. Vince is responsible for mixed-use, transit-oriented multifamily development projects across Los Angeles and Ventura County. Previously, he worked as portfolio manager for Greystar’s multi-investor club ventures in Charleston, SC. Prior to joining Greystar, Vince led acquisition and development efforts for a family office in Germany. Vince holds an MBA in Real Estate from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Toronto. Vince is currently a mentor for real estate technology accelerator Moderne Ventures.

Mr. Grossman is a Senior Managing Director at Meridian Capital Group. He opened the firm’s San Diego office in May 2011 charged with expanding the company’s presence throughout the western and southwestern states. In his 10+ years leading the west coast for Meridian, Mr. Grossman has built a team that has originated and closed more than $12 billion of debt and equity transactions spanning more than 600 loans across primary and esoteric asset types. Prior to opening Meridian’s San Diego office, Mr. Grossman was a Structured Finance Analyst Fitch Ratings, a Principal at Mission Peak Capital, and worked in Meridian’s New York City office where he closed in excess of $3 billion. Mr. Grossman attended NYU, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Management. John Zanetos is a Executive Vice President in the Los Angeles office of CBRE. The world’s largest real estate services firm. John’s track record with tenants and landlords has enabled him to complete a multitude of complex transactions across the United States. Major transactions have included lease acquisitions and space dispositions for Fortune 500 Companies, multi-market relocations, strategic development, advance lease renewals and occupancy cost reduction strategies. John’s primary focus is representing firms with operations in Southern California, devising creative real estate solutions and providing advice during transaction negotiations. John has received numerous CBRE recognition awards. In 2016, John successfully completed the two largest lease transactions in Greater Los Angeles including a 250,000 RSF lease with Warner Music Group and a 240,000 RSF lease with City National Bank. In addition to representing clients within the acquisition and disposition of their lease space, John advises some of the largest institutional investors of real estate on the marketing and leasing of their assets.
