Richard is a creative entrepreneur

and patron of the arts, who is

passionate about quality of place,

architecture, heritage and

provenance.

A keen proponent of sensitive

regeneration, he recently fought

and co-funded the campaign to

save Smithfield Market in London

from demolition.

An Honours Graduate of Reading

University’s Land Management

(Development and Planning

Specialism), Richard has

established, built and sold four

property investment and

professional companies in the past

two decades. He has initiated and

developed more than 6 million

square feet of mixed-use

development in his career, to date.

Pioneering Mount Anvil in 1991 –

one of London’s leading house

builders – he delivered 5,000

student bedrooms and regenerated

award-wining social housing

projects throughout London and

the south east.

In 1998 Richard co-founded

Cathedral Healthcare, a specialist

development and investment

company, growing the business into

a leading developer of primary

healthcare facilities. He sold this

company to Primary Healthcare

Properties in 2005.

Richard co-founded Cathedral

Group PLC in 1998 and nurtured the

company to become a market-

leader in public-private partnership

developments, building a pipeline of

over £2bn. In May 2014, Cathedral

merged with Development

Securities, which ultimately became

U+I in November 2015. U+I is a

FTSE listed public company with a

development pipeline of £6bn.

Together with U+I’s Chief Executive

Matthew Weiner, Richard is a driving

force behind the strategic direction

of the company, whose vision is to

create huge, long-lasting social and

economic change for communities

and sustainable value for

shareholders.

On 1st January 2018 the Secretary

of State for Digital, Culture, Media

and Sport appointed Richard as a

Commissioner for Historic England.

International WELL Building Institute

Rachel Gutter is President of the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), a public benefit

corporation with a mission to improve human health and well-being through the built

environment. In 2016, as IWBI’s Chief Product Officer, Rachel expanded the WELL Building

Standard to address all building types, as well as whole districts and communities. Becoming

President in 2018, she led the effort to bring a new version of WELL to market, shaped IWBI’s

research and education platforms to accelerate market transformation and developed the

WELL Portfolio program and IWBI Membership platform.

Rachel came to IWBI after nearly a decade at the U.S. Green Building Council, where she served

as Senior Vice President of Knowledge and was Founding Director of the Center for Green

Schools.

A widely sought after expert and inspiring speaker, Rachel’s game-changing contributions to

sustainable building have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR,

FOX News, and CNN, as well as in leading industry publications including Fast Company,

Metropolis, Grist and GreenBIZ.
