The first elevated park in DC is scheduled to open by 2019. A reconstructed 11th Street Bridge will be transformed into an elevated park and civic space featuring areas for performances, public art, play areas, plazas, and canoe and kayak launches.

A design by OMA + OLIN was selected by local nonprofit Building Bridges Across the River at THEARC and the Washington, DC, government after a seven-month nationwide competition. Costs for the whole project are expected to be roughly $45M.

Pre-construction will begin this fall and is expected to take two years. About $11M has been raised construction so far. [Curbed]
