Global Engineering Contractor Moving Headquarters To Reston
For the second time in three years, Amentum is moving its headquarters closer to D.C.
The global engineering and technology government contractor signed a 45K SF lease to relocate from Chantilly to Reston.
The firm signed on at Comstock Cos.’ Reston Station development, the companies announced Thursday. It plans to move early next year into 1900 Reston Metro Plaza, a 365K SF glass office tower that also houses Google.
The new headquarters will also include a technology showcase for Amentum’s clients. The relocation “will enhance the company’s employee experience” and streamline operating costs.
“Ultimately, the new headquarters strengthens our ability to deliver integrated, critical mission solutions aligned with global demand and government priorities,” Amentum Chief Operating Officer Steve Arnette said in a release.
The relocation comes only a few years after the company moved its headquarters from Germantown to Chantilly. Its office there spanned 46,500 SF at 4800 Westfield Blvd., owned by The RMR Group.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin had announced the cross-state move in 2023, touting the half a million dollars Amentum planned to spend to relocate.
At the time, Amentum said the move would offer more convenience for local employees, customers, partners and the extended team that does business in Washington, D.C. Amentum CEO John Heller in 2023 called the new Chantilly headquarters an “ideal centralized location for our global organization.”
This week's release doesn't say when the Chantilly lease expires or whether the firm plans to close that office as part of the headquarters move.
The company employs 50,000 people in more than 70 countries.
Amentum is the second government contracting giant to announce a headquarters relocation to Comstock’s 2M SF Reston Station development over the past four months. In November, Booz Allen Hamilton announced it would take 310K SF at the development in a move from Tysons.
