Blackboard Takes HQ Back to Former Home

After weighing its options in Arlington and Virginia, Blackboard Inc has decided to remain in DC and take up residence at its former home, 1111 19th St NW. The tech poster child will occupy roughly 71k SF on the eighth through 10th floors of the newly renovated 12-story Clarion Partners building. (That's about 30k SF less than its 650 Massachusetts Ave location.) The new space will also have a more open-concept layout. Blackboard may also benefit from the District's Qualified High Technology Company rebate program amendment that gives tax rebates to companies that lease at least 50k SF for a dozen years or more, reports the Washington Business Journal. Blackboard will join tech firms like Flat World Knowledge and Social Radar, a firm launched by former Blackboard CEO Michael Chasen. It plans to move into the space in November. [WBJ]
