Plans For Rosedale Shipping Container Apartments Scrapped

The Department of Housing and Community Development has taken a pass on a proposed Rosedale residential development made up of shipping containers.

Neighborhood Development Co and Travis Price Architects had proposed a 22-unit residential development for a city-owned plot on the 1600 block of Kramer Street NE to be built like rowhouses, but made out of shipping containers. Three teams in total have bid on the Kramer Street project, but the list of bids in the running has been whittled down to two with the shipping container project failing to make the cut, Urban Turf reports.

The shipping container residence plan called for two units per three-story house, with 40% of the homes set aside for affordable housing. Travis Price Architects previously designed a shipping container apartment project at 3305 7th St NE, which delivered in 2014. The DHCD will make a decision on the two remaining bids, from Manna Inc and Mi Casa, in the coming months. [UT]
