Carmel Partners Forced to Scale Back in Fremont

Carmel Partners has trimmed back its plans at Fremont's 1031 Walnut Ave, reducing the number of planned apartment units by 25% and lowering building heights to better meet community demands.

The original proposal for the rental apartments, called Walnut Residences and located a half-mile from Fremont's BART station, would have offered 882 units in three four-story and two five-story buildings. The proposal, which also included an underground garage with 1,412 spaces, was criticized as being too dense without enough parking, reports the San Jose Mercury News.

Carmel scaled back the plan to 670 units in three-story and four-story buildings and increased parking from 1.5 spaces per unit to 1.7. The firm presented the new plan to Fremont City Council last week. Neighbors at the meeting voiced the same concerns about the new plan. [SJMN]
