Another Bay Area mall could soon have an entertainment complex. General Growth Properties filed plans to turn the Macy’s building at Stonestown Galleria into retail, restaurants and a movie theater with up to 12 screens, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The owner bought the building in January from Macy’s for $40M. While Macy’s has yet to announce a closure at this building, experts expect the store to close in 2018.
Macy’s also sold its Men's store in Union Square for $250M in late 2016 to Morgan Stanley, which has plans to turn the 250K SF building into a mixed-use development with office, retail and restaurant space. The project is expected to be completed in 2021.
