Uber is considering an office expansion across the bay into Oakland and has reportedly toured several of the city’s larger available spaces and sites. To date, Uber’s growth in the area has been focused on San Francisco, where the company has either moved into or has deals in place for nearly 900k SF of additional space. One reason for the possible expansion could be the number of employees that call Oakland home. Residential rents have skyrocketed in San Francisco and Oakland is beginning to see more residential development. Although no deal is imminent, asking rents that are roughly 40% cheaper than San Francisco could also be a motivating factor. [SFBT]
